The Calaveras Unified School District (CUSD) recently added a Solar Light greenhouse manufactured by Agra Tech (ATI) in Pittsburg, CA and it is already an integral part of its ag program at Calaveras High School in San Andreas, CA. With multiple uses and more to be developed over time, the CUSD should be used as a national model for how a school can use a commercial greenhouse to teach and motivate students and create the greenhouse farmers of the future.

The story behind the Rising Sun Farm & Garden in Vernalis, CA, is one of rejuvenation and growth, with a lot of compassion sprinkled in along the way. It’s a life skills development program that’s part of the Patterson Joint Unified School District that attracts students from Patterson, Newman Crows Landing School District and surrounding communities for young adults with special needs, ages 18-22.

Hydroponics greenhouses are excellent locations to provide vocational rehabilitation for adults with developmental disabilities. The Abilities Connection has been providing voc rehab services since 1956. Most of their 300 workers-in-training focus on manufacturing and repairing air cargo nets for the US Air Force (TAC has been the prime contractor for this service since 2008). They are active in a variety of other roles – in 2010 they first established a 1,200 square foot indoor hydroponic facility then constructed a 3,000 square foot Agra Tech Solar Light 36 x 84' hydroponic greenhouse.

Woodland High School in Woodland, CA has one of the finest Agriculture and Environmental Sciences programs in California with top teachers, a comprehensive curriculum, as well as cutting-edge equipment and tools. Known as a "school within a school", the high school's Ag Academy includes sophomores, juniors and seniors who attend three academic classes and one agriculture specialty class every semester.

The Leichtag Common's Director of Engineering Dempsey Sawyer has been working with Agra Tech of Pittsburg, CA and AgCon of San Jose, CA in the design and construction of a very unique gutter-connected series of six Continental ATI greenhouses at their 67.5 acre agricultural property less than one mile from the Pacific Ocean in the heart of Encinitas, CA. It's the kind of project that both companies aren't afraid to get involved in and that's why it's both exciting and intriguing at the same time.
